“Three Rivers Rd”, many destinations [Part 1]

Map

I must say that “Three Rivers Rd”, between Alamagordo/Tularosa and Carrizozo is an amazing one. It is a road with so many destinations we have started exploring in 2011 and it just does not seem as we are done! Seriously…. at the BLM campground alone going through the over 20,000 Petroglyph while taking on the 360 views is an endless “make my day” gift. Speaking about “Gifts”, located on Highway 54 when coming from the South making a right hand turn into “Three Rivers Rd” [or obviously a left if coming from the North] is “Three Rivers Trading Post” which will take you quite some time in itself admiring their Art and many other offerings including local salsas, jellies and much more! They even their own RV Park.

Lots of Jellies….
And Salsa…

A few steps away on “Three Rivers Rd” is the School built in 1904. It is at the present owned by the “Three Rivers Trading Post” and fenced all around with obvious “Private Property” signs. They are however considering making this School a place people can rent out and stay in for a week or so, even just a few days. Maybe an AirBnB? I thought it would be a great idea for those not camping and wanting to explore the Petroglyphs, the little Chapel and the National Forest all down the road. It would be a comfy Base Camp.

“Part 2” will be the BLM/Petroglyphs Campground, the little “Santo Nino” Chapel and the “Three Rivers National Forest Campground”. All up the road a few miles away…

Enjoy and explore… Ara and Spirit

  2. Well I’ll be dipped in honey and fed to a bear :o) That road and I know each other. Not because I have been down it, because I’ve made it as far as Tularosa (from the “other side” and I’ve told myself that I needed to come in from the west side for at least 20 years and I’ve never done it. I will now. Thank you very much!
